James A. Connellan


James A. Connellan was a native of Elphin and practiced as a solicitor in the area during the 1930s and 40s. He is a writer of both fiction and non-fiction. His non-fiction work includes two versions of a history of Oliver Goldsmith (see below) and a number of business texts, including "The law & practice of house drainage, with the Acts & Bye-Laws observant thereon ..." (1938) & "Accountancy for Retailers" (1944?). His fiction includes "Without Leave or Licence", "The Risin' of the Moon", "The Lost Heir", "Sydney Carton", "The One-Horse Plough", "The Spinning Wheel" (1943), & "Divided Affections" a comedy in three acts, (1944?). *

 

The works shown here are his non-fiction "Oliver Goldsmith - Roscommon's Illustrious Son" (1935) (an alternative title of this book is "Oliver Goldsmith of Elphin" (see below) and a play "The Heart of a Bachelor - or - The Third Sex" (1941).
