Michael O'Dea - Poet.

Michael O'Dea was born in Roscommon Town in 1955. He is a graduate of University College Galway and now lives and teaches in Dublin. He is widely published in Irish magazines and his first collection of poems was published in 1997. He is currently researching a Roscommon literary biography. In order to keep some order on things the criteria for the anthology are as follows: (a) the works must be literary, (b) the authors must have had a book published by a recognized, established publisher and (c) the author must have been born or lived for a significant length of time in Co. Roscommon. Anyone who might like to contact him regarding this project may do so via the links below or via this site.

Books by this author:

Sunfire (left) and Turn Your Head (right) Two poetry collections published by The Dedalus Press (1997 & 2003). Felos aínda serra (centre). A limited edition chap-book printed in Spain by Amastra-N-Gallar (2005).

The After-Mass Men.

Remember those figures by the church wall
Sculpted in after-mass conversations:
Blather-tattooed men
That hung there by their jackets;
Museums with pockets,
Pockets full of knives, pipes and matches.
Stone men:
Pre-christians defiling Sabbaths
With their Saturday conversations.
Gargoyles:
Coats would be wrapped against them
As though they were sudden showers of hail
