Anne Ridge.

Anne Ridge is from Roscommon. After working in the midlands in the 1970's and 1980's she moved to Galway where she works for Galway County Library Services. This book is the result of work for her Masters in Irish Studies degree, which she completed in NUI Galway in 2003. Anne is well known for her interest in history and folklore and assisted Roscommon County Library Services in setting up a modern folklore collection service in the county.

The book tells the story of funerary rites and customs which existed in the midlands over the centuries and which were recorded by James Delaney and others for the Folklore Commission. The customs included in this book come from Roscommon, Westmeath and Offaly mainly, but also includes rites from East Galway, Mayo and Sligo.
