Roscommon Micro-Breweries.

Roscommon is not noted for brewing ale, but it has had some business in this area. We are aware of two micro-breweries that made beer in Roscommon, they are:

The Emerald Brewery.

The Emerald Brewery was a micro-brewery founded in 1999 and based in Roscommon town until about the year 2000 or 2001. It is listed in the town in the 1999/2000 edition of the 07/09 Area Telephone Directory and moved to Racecourse Road for the 2000/2001 edition. It seems to have ceased trading shortly afterwards and is not listed in the 2002 edition of the Directory. The premises and equipment were purchased by Hooker Brewery (see below). Three beers are listed as having been made;

Gold , Connaught and Rua.     (We think Gold was the only ale actually brewed. If you know better please contact us)

Neck label for the Emerald Brewery.

   Bottle label and poster for Gold Lager.

We have no further information about this business. If you have any information or items of ephemera, please contact us. Thanks to Paul Brennan for the above.

The Hooker Brewery.

The Hooker Brewery purchased the premises and equipment of the Emerald Brewery on Racecourse Road. It produces one Irish Pale Ale, which is currently only available in kegs. Plans are afoot to bottle the beer in 2010.

Galway Hooker - Irish Pale Ale.

The draft beer is available in Gleesons in Roscommon Town (right), in Galway and in Dublin. In the interests of research we have tested it ourselves and can recommend it highly!

Business card (late 2009) and leaflet (front and back) (April 2010) for Galway Hooker ale.
