Co. Roscommon Ploughing Championships.

Ploughing has always been an important part of farming. Images of horse and plough are recorded from ancient times and an 18th century gravestone from Roscommon shows Daniel Guilane with his horse and plough in 1736 (see 1997 programme below). The national Ploughing Championships are held ever year and farmers from Co. Roscommon take part. In preparation for this event a local County Ploughing Championships is held under the auspices of the Co. Roscommon Ploughing Association.. The new Championships, held under National Ploughing Association (NPA) Rules was first held in 1994.
