- Memorial Cards -

This page is sponsored by In Memory - Personal Memorial Card Design.

Apart from their obvious intention to remember the dead, Memorial and Remembrance Cards can be a useful source of genealogical information. While they usually contain only a small amount of family information, (relative to the religious detail on the card), they sometimes have the only known surviving photograph of the individual, sometimes a woman's marital status, and the address, age and date when the person died. This is very useful for people trying to trace their roots.

The cards on this site are placed here for family history purposes only. No slight is intended or implied. We respect our dead - may those whom these cards represent, Rest in Peace.

Grandmas' collection of memorial cards may well have been continued by Mom, but eventually these memories of long dead generations have little impact on the living. It is at such times that memorial cards are discarded and, unfortunately, a link with the past is lost forever. If you have any old Roscommon Memorial Cards (be it one or one hundred), that have no meaning or little meaning left for you, please don't throw them out. We have a safe and welcoming home for them here. Contact us. We welcome any additional information.

Many of the cards in these databases belong to others and we do not have the originals. We thank our many friends for lending us their mementoes. We welcome contributions to this database.

Unknown Cards, U.S.A. and U.K. Cards & cards from other Irish Counties.

Please Note: Cards are listed under the place mentioned on the card. (Athlone and Ballinasloe are listed on their own, but all other counties are listed under "U"). These cards were part of a Roscommon collection and we therefore presume that they have a Roscommon link. Sometimes townlands are given under the wrong place or may be spelled incorrectly, (we list them strictly as per entry on card). People can sometimes be listed under a number of places or no place at all might be mentioned on the card. Please check all potential links before giving up.
