John
Kelly was born in Rath,
Ballintubber,
but has lived and worked in the
Ballaghaderreen area of Co. Roscommon since the mid 1980's. He is
married to Brid from Donegal and they have three children, Amy, Darragh and
Ronan. John was educated at St Bride's National School, Ballintubber and at
the Christian Brothers School in Roscommon. He works for the Health Service
Executive. He has been the Community Welfare Officer for the Ballaghaderreen
area for over 24 years. In 2004 John Kelly was motivated to pursue a career in politics and he contested the local elections , topping the poll in the Ballaghaderreen Ward and was elected on the first count (poster, left). He is an Independent Councillor on Roscommon County Council. In 2008 he took at shot at the bigger stage and ran in the General Elections. On this occasion however he was unsuccessful. John topped the poll in the new Ballaghaderreen / Castlerea Constituency in the Local Election in 2009.. Throughout the years John has raised over €70,000 for the Irish Wheelchair Association, his favorite charity. He is a man on a mission who believes that hard work and perseverance is the only way to achieve success. John's website can be accessed by clicking on this link.
