The Proportional Representation (PR) Electoral System.

Voting in Ireland is based on the Proportional Representation or PR system. The images below are from a book, first published in 1919 for the first Local Government Elections held in this country in which the PR system was used. The information contained in this book is still valid today. It explains how your vote can influence an election, and how your number two and number three votes etc. are distributed. This edition was printed by Browne & Nolan Limited under a British Government in Ireland - I don't know of any similar publication ever produced by an Irish Administration?

Images are as large as to be consistent with clarity, but as small as possible to keep the page manageable. There are 49 pages in the booklet.
