Michael J.
McLoughlin - Clann na Talmhan.
Michael
McLoughlin (1894 - 1955) and J. J. "Johnny" Meighan set up the
Roscommon Farmers' Association, later to be named the
Roscommon Farmers' Union, in about 1939 or 1940. Shortly
afterwards it was subsumed by Clann na Talmhan. Johnny
Meighan was a county councillor and briefly, a TD.
In 1942 there were six county council seats in
Boyle. The successful candidates and their first preferences were as
follows:
Senator Peter T .Lynch, Fianna Fail, (1300 votes approx.)
John "Johnny" Beirne, Clann na Talmhan, (800 votes approx. -
Roscommon TD 1943 - 48)
Michael "Master" Kelly, Fianna Fail (700 votes approx.).
Eddie Carlos, Clann na Talmhan, (700 votes approx.).
Michael McLoughlin, Clann na Talmhan, (666 votes).
James Higgins, Fianna Fail (Votes unknown).
A fourth, unsuccessful, Clann na Talmhan
candidate was Eddie Keaveney, (320 votes approx.).

In 1945 the successful candidates were:
Lynch, Beirne, Kelly, Carlos, Higgins and Duignan.
In 1950 the successful candidates included
Beirne, McLoughlin, Lynch, Duignan and Tom Callan of Fine
Gael. Callan was a solicitor practising in Boyle. His son was the
senior partner of CE Callan & Co, now Callan-Tansey.
