Roscommon has a long tradition in theatre, drama and cinema. We celebrate in bringing evidence of that tradition to our visitors. We have a small collection of material relating to theatre, drama and cinema in the county, we welcome more. Please contact us if you have such material and would like to have it preserved. This is our link page for Theatre, Drama and Cinema for Co. Roscommon.

Cinema.

In the early 1970's there were three cinema's in Roscommon: The Royal Super Cinema in Roscommon town, the Castle Cinema in Castlerea and the Abbey Cinema in Boyle. (In close proximity were the Gaiety Cinema in Carrick-on-Shannon and The Star Cinema in Ballyhaunus. The Star would run a bus service through Ballinlough, Granlahan and Cloonfad to pick up patrons). (Kathy Raftery)

We would love to have some ephemera relating to these cinemas. If you have any please contact us.

If you have any similar material that you no longer need, please contact us.
