Tourism documents & ephemera.

Roscommon is a beautiful place to visit. its scenery and historical sites are amongst the best in the country. Places like Roscommon and Rindoon castles, Roscommon and Boyle Abbeys, Cruachán, Strokestown Park and King Houses - If you have been here yourself you know the feeling, if not you should make it your business to come!

Walking, cycling and visiting places of historical or cultural interest have long been popular pastimes. Information leaflets to facilitate these activities are common. These are often discarded however and examples from the past (even the recent past) are quite scarce.

A pack of Souvenir Playing Cards (above) produced by the Irish Tourist Association. No date but ca. 1950's? This pack has one card for Roscommon, the Three of Hearts "McDermott's Castle, Lough Key, County Roscommon". The other card, the Ace of Hearts, has the caption "Lough Key, County Roscommon" but the same card in our pack is for "Muckno Lake, Co. Monaghan"! Did the set with the Lough Key (Ace of Hearts) card also have the McDermott Castle card? There were obviously a number of different editions made? How many different sets are there? Does anyone know? Please contact us.
