Shannon View Lounge in
Portrun was originally owned by Ned Nixon, who initially leased and
later sold the premises to James J. McDermott and his wife, Mary
Ellen (nee Cunlisk), about the turn of the twentieth century. James
J. and Mary Ellen has four daughters and one son, Patrick J. who
inherited the business. When Paddy Joe McDermott died the business
passed to his eldest son, Vincent, who ran the pub up to the time of
his death. Shannon View Lounge overlooks beautiful Lough Ree with easy access to the lake from the recently constructed jetty or directly from the shore. Portrunny Bay and Lough Ree are excellent venues for fishing, sailing or water sports. The photographs below are of the Shannon Regatta 2008 at Portrun.
