The first issue of The Roscommon Champion newspaper was printed in Castle Street, Roscommon in February 1927. The proprietor was James Quigley. The paper was a family run business and many members of the Quigley family worked for it over the years.

In 1987 the Quigley family sold the paper to The Midland Tribune Group and Turners Printers. The paper moved from Castle Street to Church Street and with the issue of 18th. December 2007 changed from broadsheet to tabloid format.
