Mileage Marks.


Mileage Marks were introduced ca. 1808 and were officially used up to the introduction of the adhesive stamp in 1840. Some marks, however, were used after this date to show the location. The official issue handstamps showed the name of the town and the distance in Irish miles from Dublin. Over the years the marks often showed different mileage. These are indicated in the table below.
