CHARLOTTE O’CONOR ECCLES

(ca.1860 - 1911)


Born at Ballingard House, Co. Roscommon ca. 1860, fourth daughter of Alexander O’Conor Eccles of Ballingard House, founder of "The Roscommon Messenger" newspaper. She was educated at Upton Hall, Birkenhead, England and in Paris and Germany.

 

A writer, translator and journalist, her career began with writing for Irish Periodicals. She later emigrated to London where her work became more prominent. She sometimes wrote under the pseudonym "Hal Godfrey".

She contributed articles to many magazines, including "Pall Mall Magazine" and the "American Ecclesiastical Review" and she wrote extensively for “The Windsor Magazine” (Published by Ward, Lock & Bowden 1895 – 1939). Her work includes:
