Our Roscommon Collections.

Welcome to Roscommon!

This website is a reference site for publications, documents and ephemera of all types relating to Co. Roscommon in Ireland & Roscommon people everywhere. (If you don't know what ephemera is, please follow the link on the left)! The site is primarily intended for those interested in collecting (Roscommon) publications, documents and ephemera, but will also be of assistance to those interested in local history, house history or family history and for college students and others interested in media studies, the history of art & design, political studies, history and many other college subjects.

The site currently has over 850 individual pages and new ones are added regularly. To find an item of interest please check the alphabetical list in the left hand column or alternatively, search for your interest with the search facility above. Each entry leads to the page for that particular subject and from there you can access individual collections. Individual subjects may be included under a number of different headings.

This is a reference site. It is in essence an illustrated catalogue of my collection. There are over 5,500 illustrations on the site! Images are mostly taken from our archive, 'though we welcome and encourage photographs and information from visitors. Most higher level links are works in progress - Mike Lennon has 4000 Roscommon people listed in his "Dictionary of Roscommon Biography" (in preparation) - we make no claim to that number (yet)! If you don’t find something today, please return again sometime soon, when we will have more material to view. We add new material almost on a daily basis - please follow the "What's New" link (left) to our Facebook "Roscommon Collectibles Group" page for details of all new material added. (You have to be a member to participate in the Group, but not to view the page)!

I welcome your comments and suggestions and, as with Roscommon County itself, enjoy your visit and please, do stay awhile.

If you find any broken links please let us know.

Liam.

Colligate quae superaverunt fragmenta ne pereant

(John 6:12 “Gather up the fragments that remain lest they be lost”).

Some people have mentioned the fact that I collect "modern" ephemera?

The image above is from the 1982 Roscommon Association Yearbook and the one below from 1989!

If you are a collector, what would YOU give for these booklets today?

I MAKE NO APOLOGY FOR COLLECTING MODERN EPHEMERA! SOME DAY IT TOO WILL BE OLD!

In her book “Cultural Genocide” Patricia Sleeman wrote, “The destruction of archives and records is a destruction of the unseen, not of flesh & blood but that of the soul of a people”.

This site is a visual presentation of some of my work. If you can help in any way, please contact us. Thank you.
